The Polonsky Foundation Digitizion Project is a collaboration between the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford and the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (the Vatican Library) with the aim of making free to the public part of their repositories of ancient texts. The project has three main collections: Hebrew manuscripts, Greek manuscripts, and incunabula (15th-century printed books) and includes both religious and secular texts totalling over more than 1.5 million pages. The digitized pages of the various collections are viewed in the Libraries’ image platforms, Digital.Bodleian and DigiVatLib, depending on which library the document is kept in. The project website allows users to access all the digitized items (listed by shelfmark), browse the digitized items by subject, date, and place of origin, and explore highlights from the digitized collections. The Hebrew Manuscrips include documents from the 9th-19th centuries from the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe and cover a wide range of topics including poetry, philosophy, grammar, liturgies, Kabbalah, medicine, and more.
