The Online Image Database of the Institute for the History of German Jews [Bilddatenbank 'Jüdische Geschichte' of the Institut für die Geschichte der deutschen Juden] (IGdJ) in Hamburg contains about 2,000 digital records (as of August 2021) reflecting German-Jewish or European-Jewish history. The bulk of available images illustrate Jewish history in Hamburg, providing photographic evidence of the city’s diverse Jewish life. Additional images showcase synagogues, schools, cemeteries, Jewish communities, individuals, daily life, as well as the National Socialist and the post-WII periods. The IGdJ digital image archive is designed to allow researchers ease of use and can be accessed in-house or remotely from home. All images and other visual source material are accompanied by informative background information and are authorized for personal research and use. Users must register for a free account to receive information to access the database and additionally renew their credentials if they use the database for a period of more than 6 weeks.
