The online version of the Memorial Book: Victims of the Persecution of Jews under the National Socialist Tyranny in Germany 1933 - 1945 [Das Gedenkbuch des Bundesarchivs für die Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Judenverfolgung in Deutschland (1933-1945)] has been on the Internet since December 2007 and represents a continuously developing version of the second extended and updated version of the Memorial Book originally published in 2006 by the German Federal Archives. It contains the names, personal details, and tragic stories of people who were residents in the German Reich between 1933 and 1945 and who were among the victims of the National Socialist persecution of Jews due to their actual or supposedly Jewish origin or belief. The Memorial Book records as victims those who died as a result of persecution. For this project, persecution includes victims of deportations, those murdered through pogroms and "euthanasia" programs, and those that committed suicide between 1933 and 1945. The Memorial Book currently contains more than 170,000 names.
