The Barbados Synagogue Restoration Project (BSRP) Collection contains records related to the activities and functions of BSRP, a charity established in 1984 in Bridgetown, Barbados. These records have been processed and digitized, and partially put online under a collection of the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), a cooperative digital library for resources from and about the Caribbean. The collection consists of administrative and financial papers, correspondence, reports, architectural drawings, newspaper clippings, and rich photographic material from the founding of BSRP in 1984 to its reincorporation as Synagogue 1654 Management Inc. in late 2015. The four sub-collections reflect a number of projects that BSRP spearheaded: 1) the restoration of the historic synagogue building (1984-1987), 2) the cleaning and conservation work on the historic cemetery (1999-2003), 3) the establishment of the Nidhe Israel Museum school (2004-2008), and 4) the unearthing and restoration of the Jewish ritual bath, or 'mikveh' (2009) as well as the new and ongoing phase of works, the Synagogue Block Redevelopment project. As the processing of the collection (digitization, arrangement, and description) is still an ongoing project, material will be incrementally added as it become available.
