The American Jewess was first English-language periodical targeted to American Jewish women that offered the first sustained critique, by Jewish women, of gender inequities in Jewish worship and communal life and was published for 4 1/2 years from 1895-1899. Assembled and digitized for online access by the Jewish Women's Archive (JWA), The American Jewess Digitization Project reproduces the entire run (8 volumes counting 1200 articles) of The American Jewess in digital format for the first time. Assembled from various archives and library collections, the final digitized searchable text of all articles of this periodical is hosted by the University of Michigan Library.
